What’s the problem?
August 21, 2018 – Attorneys for Plaintiff Carolyn Weirick argued at the beginning of trial that the case was about “breach of trust,” since Johnson & Johnson had been marketing its brand and products for decades as being wholesome and pure, even though they were knowingly selling consumers asbestos-laced talc products that could possibly kill them, while failing to warn.
Weirick’s suit is the latest to go to trial in a mountain of similar claims, each alleging that Johnson & Johnson Talcum powder causes cancer. The vast majority of claims filed to date involve ovarian cancer injuries, thus making Weirick’s suit something of a rarity.
None of this means much to Weireck, who, despite the outcome of the trial, will likely lose a quarter century of her life to mesothelioma, according to the suit.
The trial is being presided over by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Margaret Oldendorf.
The lawsuit is: Carolyn Weirick v. Brenntag North America et al., case number BC656425, in the Superior Court of the State of California for the County of Los Angeles.
