On July 30, 2026, Hangzhouyuefangjiajuyongpinyouxiangongsi dba OCTROT of China announced a voluntary recall of its electric heated Sherpa throws and blankets in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. Approximately 178,000 units are affected. The throws and blankets were manufactured in China and sold exclusively on Amazon.com.
What Products Are Affected?
The recall covers OCTROT-branded electric heated Sherpa throws and blankets sold in gray and yellow, white with gray, white with yellow, white with blue, and white with red, in five sizes: 50″x62″, 50″x60″, 62″x84″, 64″x84″, and 84″x90″. Each has a white controller with five temperature settings. The following model numbers are included in the recall:
- OCT-5060
- OCT-5062
- OCT-6248
- OCT-7284
- OCT-8490
The brand name and model number are printed on the product packaging. The controller’s cord has two or four small holes at the lower connection point where it attaches to the controller — a key identifying feature of the recalled product. The recalled throws and blankets were sold on Amazon.com from August 2021 through December 2025 for between $40 and $60.
What Is the Hazard?
The electrical cord on the recalled throws and blankets can detach and ignite, posing a serious risk of injury or death from fire, burn, and electrical shock hazards. Because heated blankets are typically used while sleeping or resting — when a user may be unable to quickly detect or respond to a fire — a cord ignition event can cause significant harm before the consumer is aware of the danger.
Incidents and Injuries
OCTROT has received 555 reports of the recalled throws and blankets melting, sparking, and smoking. Those incidents resulted in 27 fires and 15 burn or electrical shock injuries to consumers.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers who own a recalled OCTROT heated throw or blanket should stop using it immediately and unplug it. To receive a full refund, consumers must unplug the electrical cord, cut it in half, photograph the destroyed product showing the cut cord, and send the photo to OctrotRecall@outlook.com.
