Sanofi U.S. knew about the risk of permanent hair loss or “alopecia” associated with its chemotherapy drug Taxotere (generic: docetaxel), yet it failed to adequately warn consumers, according to a new lawsuit filed by more than 2 dozen people in Cook County Circuit Court, Illinois.

What’s the Problem?
January 22, 2018 – The complaint was filed against Sanofi and a half dozen other alleged co-conspirators, alleging that they manufactured a defective drug used to treat breast cancer.
Plaintiffs further allege that they suffered permanent hair loss as a result of their use of Taxotere, which they claim they were wholly unaware of due to the defendants’ negligence.
Taxotere is an injectable chemotherapy medicine that works by attacking cancer cells during various phases of division. The problem is that although Taxotere has demonstrated considerable effectiveness as a chemo treatment, the drug has been increasingly linked to permanent hair loss, a condition commonly known as “alopecia.”
The group of plaintiffs is holding Sanofi et. al. responsible for allegedly failing to adequately warn about the risk of permanent hair loss with Taxotere, therefore needlessly subjecting them to severe, potentially permanent side effects when many equally effective chemo treatments exist that do not cause these adverse health consequences.
Plaintiffs are requesting a jury trial and seeking judgment against the defendants to compensate for all damages, court costs, interest, and other relief the court deems just.
The lawsuit is: Cook County Circuit Court case number 2017L012703.
