What’s the Problem?

April 17, 2017 – Plaintiff Laura Lutz claims she developed serious injuries after being implanted with Physiomesh in June 2012. Her complications ultimately required her to undergo painful revision surgery to remove the hernia patch, according to the lawsuit.
Lutz holds Johnson & Johnson and its Ethicon division responsible for designing an allegedly defective medical device, and for concealing knowledge of the potential risks of Physiomesh from the public. The lawsuit was filed on April 4, 2017, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
Physiomesh has been recalled in both Europe and Australia. In May 2016, Ethicon announced that it was withdrawing its Physiomesh Flexible Composite Mesh after an analysis of unpublished data found higher than average recurrence and reoperation rates following laparoscopic ventral hernia repair with the products.
Lutz is requesting a trial by jury and seeking compensatory and punitive damages, attorneys’ fees, costs and such other relief deemed just and proper. The lawsuit is: U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana Case number 2:17-cv-02869.
