Update: Bayer’s Shares Plummet Following Consecutive Roundup Trial Losses
March 22, 2019 – Shares of Bayer AG dropped over 12% on Wednesday after a jury in federal court in San Francisco ruled for the second time that its Roundup weed killer caused cancer. It was the pharmaceutical giant’s biggest 1-day loss in 16 years, according to Reuters.
What is Roundup Ultra?
What is Roundup Ultra?Manufactured by Monsanto, Roundup Ultra is a highly potent herbicide like the original Roundup, except that it attacks living plants rather than seeds. The glyphosate in Roundup Ultra is absorbed by leaves and moves throughout the entire plant to destroy annual and perennial weeds, including grasses. Roundup Ultra is intended to be used on big jobs such as lawn renovation, vegetable and flower bed preparation.
What’s the problem?
The World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2015 issued a final health assessment of glyphosate, determining that the chemical is ”probably carcinogenic to humans” after it was linked to various forms of non-Hodgkin lymphoma including lymphocytic lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, B-cell lymphoma, hairy cell leukemia, and others.
