What’s the Problem?
March 29, 2017 – Plaintiff in the lawsuit alleges that she began experience severe pain after undergoing hip replacement surgery with an implant that included the V40 femoral head. Initially, her doctor was unable to find any problems with the device, but a subsequent diagnostic panel found high levels of metal ions in her blood.
This finding indicated that the plaintiff had metallosis, a condition involving deposition and buildup of metal debris in the soft tissues of the body that occurs when metallic components in joint replacements rub against one another. Symptoms of metallosis include bone and tissue death, implant failure and severe pain.
Plaintiff underwent hip revision surgery on July 21, 2014, when it was discovered that she had extensive metallosis and corrosion in her hip joint that caused severe soft tissue damage. The surgeon also noted corrosion at the taper junction between the Stryker Accolade stem and the Stryker LFIT V40 femoral head.
These problems required the plaintiff to undergo extensive painful rehabilitation. She is charging Stryker with designing an allegedly defective medical device in the Stryker LFIT V40 femoral head. She brings counts of negligence, breach of warranties, and is seeking compensatory damages against the manufacturer.
