What’s the Problem?

The Stryker V40 was recalled in August 2016 after users experienced wearing away of the device where it connects to the femoral stem. When this occurs, it can cause a release of metal particles into surrounding tissue and bone, putting them at risk for:

  • Necrosis of tissue and bone cells
  • Elevated levels of cobalt and chromium in the blood
  • Revision surgery
  • Loss of mobility
  • Pain
  • Joint dislocation
  • Broken bones

Plaintiffs lawyers are seeking consolidation of the Stryker LFIT lawsuits in Bergen County, New Jersey, on behalf of 25 cases pending in the jurisdiction.
Court records indicate that the pace of filing has increased recently. At least 85 V40 cases are pending in courts across the U.S. It has been estimated that this number could grow into the hundreds or even thousands by the time the litigation process is complete.
Superior Court Judge Rachelle Harz, who oversees multicounty litigation in Bergen County, has experience with Stryker Rejuvenate and Stryker ABG litigation, which involves similar allegations.
