What’s the Problem?
June 16, 2017 – The CDC study found that there are around 6,000 cases of Legionnaires’ each year, and from 2000 to 2015, rates of the respiratory illness skyrocketed 450%.
Researchers cautioned that part of the increase may be due to advanced diagnostic techniques and monitoring by hospitals.
2017 is shaping up to be a bad year for Legionnaires’ outbreaks, with the following cases reported over the past few weeks alone:
- Two hotel guests in Last Vegas contracted the lung infection;
- New York City police officers were warned against showering at their station due to the disease, and
- At least 4 cases of Legionnaires’ were reported at 2 different LA Fitness locations in Florida.
