Weber-Stephen Products LLC announced a recall of approximately 3.2 million metal wire bristle grill brushes on February 26, 2026 due to ingestion hazards. [1] The company reported at least 38 incidents where bristles detached, including four cases requiring medical treatment to remove bristles from consumers’ digestive tracts or throats.

Six model numbers are included in the recall: 6277, 6278, 6463, 6464, 6493, and 6494. The brushes have plastic or wood handles measuring between 12 and 21 inches long.

Where Sold

The brushes were sold at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Target, Amazon, and Weber.com from 2011 through 2026 for $10 to $17. Products have also been found on resale sites including eBay.

Ingestion Hazard

Small metal wire bristles detach from the brushes during use and stick to grill grates or food. When consumed, the bristles can become lodged in the throat, esophagus, stomach, or intestines, causing perforations, lacerations, and internal bleeding that require surgical intervention.

Reported Injuries

Weber received at least 38 reports and reviews where bristles detached from the grill brushes. Four consumers swallowed metal bristles and required medical treatment to remove them from their digestive tracts or throats.

Remedy Available

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled brushes and contact Weber for a free cold cleaning nylon bristle grill brush replacement. Consumers will be asked to discard the recalled metal wire bristle brushes.

Legal Claims

Consumers injured by Weber grill brushes may pursue strict products liability claims for defective design. The metal wire bristles detach too easily, creating an unreasonable risk of serious internal injuries when ingested.

Failure to warn claims are viable since Weber did not adequately warn consumers about the risk of bristle detachment and ingestion hazards. Negligence claims can allege Weber continued selling brushes despite knowing about detachment incidents and injuries.

Breach of warranty claims assert Weber impliedly warranted the brushes were safe for their intended purpose of cleaning grills. Medical monitoring claims may seek coverage for ongoing health monitoring given the risk of undetected bristles causing delayed internal injuries.

Damages

Victims may recover medical expenses including emergency room visits, diagnostic imaging to locate bristles, endoscopic or surgical procedures to remove bristles, hospitalization, and treatment for internal injuries. Additional damages include pain and suffering, lost wages, and emotional distress from swallowing foreign objects.

Class Action Potential

With 3.2 million units sold over 15 years, a nationwide class action could address the widespread distribution of defective brushes. Economic damages for consumers who purchased defective products could be recovered even without physical injury.

Contact an Attorney

If you swallowed a bristle from a Weber grill brush or suffered internal injuries requiring medical treatment, contact a product liability attorney. Time limits apply and evidence including the brush, model number, purchase records, and medical documentation must be preserved.
