About the Royal Prestige Pressure Cooker
Hy-Cite Enterprises, LLC is a Madison, Wisconsin company that has marketed its Royal Prestige brand of premium cookware since 1971, with a particular focus on the Hispanic market in the United States. The Royal Prestige Pressure Cooker — launched in 2018 and available in 6-liter and 10-liter models — is a stovetop cooker made from 316L stainless steel, marketed with four safety mechanisms including a regulator valve, pressure containment system, safety valve, and safety window.
The product is sold exclusively through a network of Hy-Cite Independent Authorized Distributors operating across the United States and seven other countries. Royal Prestige pressure cookers carry a 50-year limited warranty on material and workmanship — a claim that sets an exceptionally high safety standard that recent lawsuits allege the product does not meet.
Latest Updates
At least two federal lawsuits were filed against Hy-Cite Enterprises in 2025 alleging that the Royal Prestige Pressure Cooker opens while contents remain under pressure, causing scalding hot liquid and food to be forcefully ejected onto users. In June 2025, Johnson//Becker also filed a lawsuit against Hy-Cite Enterprises for Royal Prestige pressure cooker injuries, signaling growing litigation activity around this product.
What the Lawsuits Allege
Case 3:25-cv-00850 was filed by a man and woman from Las Vegas, Nevada who allege they suffered serious and substantial burn injuries on December 14, 2023, while using a Royal Prestige pressure cooker, Model CO1258, purchased from a Hy-Cite independent distributor in approximately November 2023. Case 3:25-cv-00851 was filed by a man and woman from Michigan who allege they were both burned on or about December 24, 2022, while using a Royal Prestige pressure cooker.
Both lawsuits allege that Hy-Cite failed to adequately test the pressure cookers to UL 136 and UL 1026 safety standards and failed to warn consumers of the risks. The lawsuits further allege that Hy-Cite refused to recall or redesign the product despite safer and economically viable alternative designs being available.
The Safety Claim Problem
Royal Prestige’s marketing explicitly advertises four built-in safety mechanisms and tells consumers the product provides “peace of mind to cook at ease.” When a product is sold with specific safety assurances — and distributed through a direct-sales model where an authorized distributor personally recommends it — a failure of those mechanisms creates a particularly strong basis for product liability and misrepresentation claims.
The lawsuits allege that Hy-Cite has not recalled the Royal Prestige pressure cooker despite receiving reports of injuries — a decision that, if proven, may support punitive damages claims in addition to compensatory damages for burn injuries.
Incidents and Injuries
The plaintiffs in Case 3:25-cv-00850 allege serious and substantial burn injuries suffered on December 14, 2023, when their Model CO1258 opened under pressure. The plaintiffs in Case 3:25-cv-00851 allege burn injuries suffered on December 24, 2022, under similar circumstances.
No Recall Doesn’t Mean No Claim
The Royal Prestige pressure cooker has not been recalled by the CPSC. However, in January 2013, approximately 1.7 million units of Royal Prestige 9-Ply Thermal Wall cookware were recalled because they could collapse, crimp, or deform when exposed to heat — demonstrating that Hy-Cite has engaged in recalls for other Royal Prestige products when safety issues arose.
Under product liability law, a consumer injured by a defective product does not need to wait for a formal recall to bring a claim — what matters is whether a defect existed, whether it caused the injury, and whether the manufacturer knew or should have known about the risk. Attorneys are currently accepting Hy-Cite pressure cooker burn injury cases in all 50 states.
Can I File a Lawsuit?
Consumers who were burned when a Royal Prestige Pressure Cooker opened or released contents under pressure may have significant legal options against Hy-Cite Enterprises and the independent distributor who sold the product. Contact an attorney promptly to have your case evaluated, as filing deadlines vary by state.
