Update: Polaris UTV Fire Hazard Recall
The CPSC announced on March 25, 2021, announced that Polaris is recalling the following UTVs over concerns that the drive belt can break during operation and damage the inner clutch cover assembly and fuel line, which can result in a fuel leak, posing a fire hazard:
- 2020-2021 Polaris Ranger 1000
- 2020-2021 Polaris Ranger Crew 1000
- 2020 Polaris ProXD 2000G
- 2020 Polaris 4000G
- 2020-2021 Polaris Ariens/Gravely JSV3200
- 2020-2021 Polaris JSV3400
- 2020-2021 Polaris JSV6400
- 2020 Polaris Bobcat UV34 4×4 GAS
- 2020 Polaris Bobcat UV34 XL GAS
- 2021 Polaris Bobcat UV34 4×4 GAS
Polaris issued this recall after receiving 3 reports of drive belt failure resulting in a damaged fuel line, including 2 reports of fire.
Affected UTVs were sold at Polaris, Ariens, and Bobcat dealers nationwide from September 2018 through December 2020 for between $13,000 and $18,500.
The CPSC Recall Number for these UTVs is 21-732.
What’s the Problem?
This CPSC Recall affects the following Polaris UTVs:
- 2020 Polaris General XP 1000 Deluxe
- 2020 Polaris General XP 4 1000 Deluxe
- 2020 Polaris Ranger Crew XP 1000 Deluxe
- 2020 Polaris General XP 1000
- 2019 Polaris Ranger XP 1000 EPS
- 2019 Polaris Ranger Crew XP 1000
The recall was issued after it was found that the recalled Polaris UTVs are equipped with a throttle that can fail to return to the idle position after the engine stalls and is restarted in gear without switching the key to the off position due to a software problem. This can cause the UTV to accelerate suddenly, posing a crash hazard to the user, CPSC said.
Affected vehicles were sold at Polaris dealers nationwide from June 2018 through March 2020 for between $15,890 and $29,000 in the following colors: gray, blue, white, red, green camo, orange, sand and maroon.
The word “POLARIS” is stamped on the front grille and “Ranger” or “General” is printed on the sides of the rear cargo area, CPSC said. VIN numbers affected by the recall are stamped into the left rear vehicle frame below the cargo box.
Consumers who purchased a recalled UTV should stop using it and contact Polaris for a free inspection and repair. The CPSC Recall Number for this item is 20-758.
