On September 18, 2025, IcyBreeze Cooling LLC of Grapevine, Texas announced a voluntary recall of its IcyBreeze Buddy Portable Misting Fan in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. Approximately 22,600 units are affected. The fans were manufactured in China and imported by IcyBreeze Cooling LLC.

What Product Is Affected?

The recall covers the IcyBreeze Buddy, a portable battery-operated misting fan equipped with a 1.5-liter water tank and a 10,000 mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides up to seven hours of outdoor use. The fan can also be powered by AC power and displays “ICYBREEZE” on both the fan and the base of the product.

The recalled misting fans were sold in slate blue, gray, and seafoam, and were sold online at IcyBreeze.com and Amazon.com from November 2023 through August 2024 for approximately $150.

What Is the Hazard?

The lithium-ion battery inside the recalled IcyBreeze Buddy can overheat while the unit is charging, posing a serious fire hazard. Because the fan is designed for outdoor use and may be charged in garages, patios, or living spaces where it is left unattended, a fire that starts during charging can spread before it is detected.

Incidents and Injuries

IcyBreeze has received seven reports of the misting fan overheating while charging. Two of those incidents resulted in fires. No personal injuries have been reported to date.

What Caused the Recall?

The recall was initiated after IcyBreeze identified that the rechargeable lithium-ion battery in the Buddy misting fan can overheat during charging and ignite. The defect affects all recalled units sold across the full sales window from November 2023 through August 2024.

What Should Consumers Do?

Consumers who own the recalled IcyBreeze Buddy should stop using and charging it immediately. To receive a $150 Solo Brands credit — redeemable across participating Solo Brands products — consumers should visit www.icybreeze.com/buddy-recall-information, complete the online form, and submit a photograph showing the power cord has been cut. No proof of purchase is required.

After submitting the form, consumers should dispose of the misting fan in accordance with local and state regulations. The recalled device contains a lithium-ion battery that must not be placed in regular trash, curbside recycling bins, or standard used-battery drop-off boxes at retail stores — consumers should contact their municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center before disposal to confirm the facility accepts recalled lithium-ion batteries. Consumers may also contact IcyBreeze at 817-900-2664, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CT, or by email at support@icybreeze.com.

Can I File a Lawsuit?

Consumers who purchased the recalled IcyBreeze Buddy Portable Misting Fan — particularly those who experienced a fire or property damage when the battery overheated during charging — may have legal options. A class action lawsuit could allow affected consumers to seek compensation for property damage, medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other related losses.
