About the Recall
On September 18, 2025, IcyBreeze Cooling LLC of Grapevine, Texas announced a voluntary recall of approximately 22,600 IcyBreeze Buddy Portable Misting Fans in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. The fans were manufactured in China and imported by IcyBreeze Cooling LLC.
Identifying the Recalled Product
The recall covers the IcyBreeze Buddy, a portable battery-powered misting fan featuring a 1.5-liter water tank and a 10,000 mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The unit displays “ICYBREEZE” on both the fan and its base, and was sold in slate blue, gray, and seafoam.
The recalled fans were sold exclusively on IcyBreeze.com and Amazon.com from November 2023 through August 2024 for approximately $150. Consumers who are unsure whether their unit is affected should check their order history from either platform against that date range.
The Fire Hazard
The 10,000 mAh lithium-ion battery inside the IcyBreeze Buddy can overheat while the unit is charging. When a rechargeable battery overheats, it can enter a process called thermal runaway — a rapid, self-sustaining cycle of heat generation that can ignite the battery and surrounding materials.
Because the fan is marketed for outdoor and recreational use, it is often charged in garages, sheds, or other locations where it may be left unattended for extended periods. An undetected fire in those environments can cause significant property damage before anyone is able to respond.
Incidents and Injuries
IcyBreeze has received seven reports of the misting fan overheating while charging. Two of those incidents escalated into fires, though no personal injuries have been reported to date.
What Consumers Should Do
Owners of the recalled IcyBreeze Buddy should stop using and charging the fan immediately. The unit should not be plugged in under any circumstances until the recall remedy has been completed.
To receive a $150 Solo Brands credit, consumers should visit www.icybreeze.com/buddy-recall-information, fill out the online form, and submit a photo showing the power cord has been cut. No receipt is required, and the lithium-ion battery must be disposed of through a certified household hazardous waste (HHW) facility rather than regular trash or curbside recycling.
