Latest Updates

On July 30, 2026, Galanz Americas Limited Company announced a voluntary recall of Galanz Retro Refrigerators in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. The CPSC is aware of 34 reports of fire involving the recalled refrigerators, one of which resulted in a fatality. The refrigerators were manufactured by Zhongshan Galanz of China and imported by Home Depot and Galanz Americas.

What Products Are Affected?

The recall covers Galanz retro-style refrigerators in black, blue, red, and white, measuring approximately 58 inches high, 24 inches deep, and 21 inches wide, with a 7.6 cubic foot capacity, top freezer, and three adjustable glass shelves. Only units with date codes ranging from December 2018 through December 2020 in YYYYMM format are included. The following model numbers are affected:

  • BCD-215V-62H
  • GLR76TRDER
  • GLR76TBKER
  • GLR76TBEER
  • GLR76TWEER

The model number, “Galanz” brand name, and date code are printed on a white label in the upper left-hand corner on the back of the unit. The recalled refrigerators were sold at Home Depot stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com from January 2019 through September 2022 for between $330 and $520.

What Is the Hazard?

The recalled refrigerators’ internal electrical components can short circuit and ignite, posing a serious risk of injury or death from fire and burn hazards. A refrigerator fire that starts inside the unit can spread rapidly to surrounding cabinetry, flooring, and other household materials — particularly if the unit is left running unattended overnight or for extended periods.

Incidents and Injuries

The CPSC has received 34 reports of fires involving the recalled Galanz refrigerators. One of those fires resulted in a consumer fatality, according to the local fire department report.
