On July 30, 2026, Shenzhen Street Cat Technology Co., Ltd. dba OCOOPA Direct announced a voluntary recall of approximately 1.5 million OCOOPA rechargeable lithium-ion battery hand warmers in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. The recalled hand warmers were manufactured and imported by OCOOPA Direct of China.
What Products Are Affected?
The recall covers OCOOPA-branded dual-sided rechargeable lithium-ion battery hand warmers sold in varying colors and designs in packs of two, with a USB-C charging port, adjustable heat settings, LED indicator lights, and a silicone lanyard. The following model numbers are included in the recall:
- UT3053
- UT3056
- ZLS-118
- ZLS-118S
- ZLS-118D
- H01
- H01(PD)
The model number and a three-digit batch number are printed on the underside of each hand warmer. “OCOOPA” is printed on the top of the warmer and on the product packaging. The recalled hand warmers were sold on Amazon.com, Ocoopa.com, Ocoopa.net, and Walmart.com from September 2018 through May 2026 for between $15 and $60.
What Is the Hazard?
The lithium-ion battery inside the recalled OCOOPA hand warmers can overheat and ignite, posing a serious risk of injury or death from fire and burn hazards. Because hand warmers are designed to be held directly in the hands or kept in pockets close to the body, a battery fire can cause severe and immediate burns before the user has any opportunity to react.
Incidents and Injuries
OCOOPA Direct has received 1,480 reports of the recalled hand warmers overheating, resulting in 15 fires and 350 burn injuries. Those incidents include the death of an 83-year-old consumer in San Jose, California in February 2026.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers who own a recalled OCOOPA hand warmer should stop using it immediately. To receive a full refund — either as an OCOOPA gift card or in the original form of payment — consumers must write “RECALLED” in permanent marker on the hand warmer and submit a photo showing that marking, the model number, and the three-digit batch number at www.ocoopa.com/pages/product-recalls.
The recalled device’s lithium-ion battery must be disposed of through a municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center — it cannot be placed in regular trash, curbside recycling, or standard retail battery drop-off boxes. Consumers should contact their local HHW facility ahead of time to confirm it accepts defective lithium-ion batteries.
