On May 28, 2026, Joy Furniture announced a voluntary recall of approximately 10,400 Talan and Royce Collection living room furniture sets in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. The furniture was manufactured by Zhejiang Mingrui Furniture Co. Ltd. in China and Cambodia, and imported by Raymour & Flanigan Furniture of Liverpool, New York.

What Products Are Affected?

The recall covers two powered living room furniture collections sold exclusively at Raymour & Flanigan locations in Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. The affected products are:

  • Talan Power Sofa (Model JF1126-4PHL) – medium gray; sold January 2024 through March 2026 for $1,000 to $2,200
  • Talan Power Loveseat (Model JF1126-5PHL) – medium gray; sold January 2024 through March 2026 for $1,000 to $2,200
  • Talan Power Recliner (Model JF1126-9PHL) – medium gray; sold January 2024 through March 2026 for $1,000 to $2,200
  • Royce Power Sofa (Model JF1155-4PHL) – brown; sold May 2025 through mid-May 2026 for $800 to $1,800
  • Royce Power Loveseat (Model JF1155-5PHL) – brown; sold May 2025 through mid-May 2026 for $800 to $1,800
  • Royce Power Recliner (Model JF1155-9PHL) – brown; sold May 2025 through mid-May 2026 for $800 to $1,800

Both collections feature power headrest and lumbar controls, pillowed arms, ultra-padded seating, and USB and wireless charging capabilities.

What Is the Hazard?

The power switch on the recalled sofas, loveseats, and recliners can malfunction and overheat during use. An overheating power switch inside upholstered furniture poses a serious fire hazard, as the surrounding fabric and cushioning provide readily ignitable fuel for any spark or flame.

Incidents and Injuries

Joy Furniture received 41 reports of incidents involving the recalled furniture, including smoking, burning smells, and electrical odors emanating from the power switch. Two of those incidents escalated into fires, though no injuries have been reported to date.

What Caused the Recall?

The recall was initiated after the company identified that the power recliner switch used in both the Talan and Royce collections can malfunction and generate dangerous levels of heat. The defect affects the switch mechanism used to control the power headrest and lumbar functions on all three furniture pieces in each collection — the sofa, loveseat, and recliner.

What Should Consumers Do?

Consumers who own the recalled Talan or Royce Collection furniture should immediately stop using the power recliner switch and unplug the power cord from the wall. Joy Furniture is providing a free replacement power switch — with an upgraded switch — installed at the consumer’s residence by an authorized technician at no cost.

Can I File a Lawsuit?

Consumers who purchased the recalled Joy Furniture Talan or Royce Collection — particularly those who experienced a fire, property damage, or injury related to the overheating power switch — may have significant legal options. A class action lawsuit could allow affected consumers to seek compensation for property damage, medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other related losses.
