Latest Updates
On June 4, 2026, Target announced a voluntary recall of Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes — along with Up & Up Fragrance Free Baby Wipes — after FDA testing confirmed microbial contamination in product samples. The FDA published the recall on June 5, 2026 [1]. The recall was initiated following customer complaints about product discoloration, which led regulators to test the wipes and identify the contamination.
What Products Are Affected?
This evaluation focuses on Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes sold in 72, 216, and 800 count sizes at Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com. Only units with manufacturing date codes of December 29–30, 2025 (291225X/XX or 301225X/XX) and expiration dates of June 29 or June 30, 2028 are subject to the recall.
The manufacturing code and expiration date are printed on the packaging and can be used to confirm whether a specific purchase falls within the recall. The UPCs for the affected Fresh Cucumber Scented products are 085239265970 (72 count), 085239265994 (216 count), and 085239265987 (800 count). The wipes were manufactured by Sapro Temizlik Urunleri and distributed exclusively by Target.
What Is the Hazard?
FDA testing of the Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes confirmed the presence of Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli. These are opportunistic bacteria that can cause serious infections — particularly in vulnerable populations including newborns, young infants, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
When used on intact, healthy skin, the contaminated wipes may cause localized skin or eye irritation. When used on broken or irritated skin — or on a newborn or immunocompromised child — the bacteria can potentially enter the bloodstream and lead to sepsis or pneumonia, both of which can be life-threatening without prompt medical intervention.
Incidents and Injuries
Target and manufacturer Sapro Temizlik Urunleri have received consumer complaints and adverse event reports related to the recalled wipes, including reports of product discoloration and symptoms such as skin irritation, eye irritation, and infections. Those reports are currently under investigation by the FDA.
What Caused the Recall?
The recall originated with customer complaints about visible discoloration in the wipes. That discoloration prompted FDA testing, which revealed microbial contamination with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli in product samples from both the Fragrance Free and Fresh Cucumber Scented product lines.
What Should Parents Do?
Parents and caregivers who purchased Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes should stop using them immediately and check the manufacturing code and expiration date on the packaging. If the product falls within the recalled date ranges, it should be discarded and returned to any Target store for a full refund — no receipt required.
