Latest Updates
On July 24, 2025, Curtis International Ltd. of Canada announced a voluntary recall of Frigidaire-brand mini fridges in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. Approximately 634,000 units are affected. The mini fridges were manufactured by ShangYu North Electron Manufacture Co. Ltd. in China and imported by Curtis International Ltd.
What Products Are Affected?
The recall covers four Frigidaire-brand mini fridge models sold in 6- and 9-can sizes in a variety of colors including black, blue, green, white, yellow, red, pink, and silver. The word “Frigidaire” is printed on the front of each unit, and the model and serial numbers are located on a label on the back. The affected models and their recalled serial number ranges are:
- Model EFMIS129 – Serial numbers A2001 to A2308 (units with model numbers containing “EFMIS129-B” or “EFMIS129-C” are NOT included in this recall)
- Model EFMIS137 – Serial numbers A2001 to A2312
- Model EFMIS149 – Serial numbers A2001 to A2308
- Model EFMIS175 – Serial numbers A2001 to A2310
The recalled mini fridges were sold at Walmart and other stores nationwide, and online at Walmart.com and Amazon.com from January 2020 through December 2023 for between $36 and $40.
What Is the Hazard?
The internal electrical components of the recalled mini fridges can short circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing. Because mini fridges are commonly left plugged in and unattended for extended periods — often in bedrooms, dorm rooms, or offices — an electrical fire can spread significantly before it is discovered.
Incidents and Injuries
Curtis International has received at least 26 reports of the mini fridges smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating, and catching fire, with property damages totaling more than $700,000. Two consumers reported smoke inhalation injuries as a result of these incidents.
What Caused the Recall?
The recall was initiated after the company identified that a defect in the mini fridges’ internal electrical components can cause a short circuit. The resulting electrical fault can ignite the plastic housing surrounding those components, turning a compact appliance into a source of serious fire and burn hazards.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers who own a recalled Frigidaire-brand mini fridge should immediately unplug it and stop using it. To receive a full refund, consumers should visit www.recallrtr.com/minifridge for instructions — the process requires cutting the power cord and writing “Recall” in permanent marker on the front door of the unit before submitting photographs as proof of destruction.

Can I File a Lawsuit?
Consumers who purchased the recalled Frigidaire-brand mini fridge — particularly those who suffered property damage, smoke inhalation, or burn injuries as a result of the electrical fire defect — may have significant legal options. A class action lawsuit could allow affected consumers to seek compensation for property damage, medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related losses.
