Overview
On September 18, 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of two models of tabletop fire pits sold by Five Below Inc. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, due to a hazardous defect in the fuel reservoir. The recalled fire pits, sold for $2.50–$5 at Five Below stores and online at fivebelow.com from April 2024 through August 2025, can leak or splash alcohol fuel during use or ignition, leading to flash fires or flames escaping the unit. This defect poses risks of serious burn injuries and fire hazards. The recall affects about 66,000 units, imported by 1616 Holdings Inc. and manufactured in China [1].
Affected Tabletop Fire Pit Models
The recall includes two tabletop fire pit models, identifiable by their packaging and UPC codes:
- Smooth Black Base: Packaged in blue, yellow, or white boxes with “Tabletop Fire Pit” in white lettering, UPC 1922343012788, tracking number FO031124
- Beveled Gray Base: Packaged in green boxes with “Outdoor,” “Easy Modern,” and “Cement Tabletop Firepit” printed on the front, UPC 1922346316838, tracking number FO011925
Both models include a stainless-steel fuel cup, lid, and flame cover, designed for decorative or small-scale outdoor heating. The defect compromises their safety, making them dangerous for use.
Hazards of the Defective Fuel Reservoir
The fire pits’ fuel reservoir can allow alcohol fuel to splash or leak during use or ignition, causing a flash fire that can spread and produce larger, hotter flames that escape the unit. This creates a risk of flame jetting, leading to serious burn injuries or property damage. Five Below has received one report of flames escaping a fire pit, though no injuries have been reported to date.
Symptoms of Injuries from the Defective Fire Pits
Consumers affected by the defective tabletop fire pits may experience:
- Burns ranging from first-degree (redness, pain) to third-degree (deep tissue damage)
- Blisters or peeling skin at the burn site
- Severe pain or numbness in the affected area
- Smoke inhalation symptoms, such as coughing or difficulty breathing
- Scarring or permanent skin damage from severe burns
These injuries require immediate medical attention and can lead to long-term complications, highlighting the urgency of the recall [1].
Recall Remedy and Consumer Actions
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled tabletop fire pits and contact Five Below for a full refund of the purchase price or $5. Refunds are available in the original payment form, cash, or store credit for those who return the fire pit. Alternatively, consumers can email a photo of the fire pit with their name and date written on it in permanent marker to Recalls@FiveBelow.com for a refund via check or store credit. No proof of purchase is required. Consumers should dispose of the recalled fire pits safely.
Potential for a Class Action Lawsuit
With 66,000 units recalled and one reported incident of flames escaping, the defective tabletop fire pits may lead to a class action lawsuit. Consumers could pursue claims for product liability, breach of warranty, or failure to warn, seeking compensation for potential injuries, medical costs, property damage, or financial losses from the low-cost ($2.50–$5) but hazardous product. If additional incidents or injuries emerge, or if manufacturing negligence is proven, a class action could unify affected consumers to seek damages, including punitive damages for safety oversights.
