Latest Updates

On September 28, 2023, Secura Inc. of Lake Forest, California announced a voluntary recall of its air fryers in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. An additional 680 units were sold in Canada. The air fryers were manufactured in China.

What Products Are Affected?

The recall covers two Secura air fryer models: model SAF-53D (TXG-DT16E) with date code 1901, and model SAF-53 (TXG-DS16) with date codes 1903 and 1904. Both models are black with silver accents, measure approximately 12 inches high by 11 inches deep by 12 inches wide, with the “Secura” brand name on top of each unit.

The model number and four-digit date code are printed on a silver label on the bottom of each air fryer. The recalled units were sold online at thesecura.com and Amazon.com from May 2019 through October 2020 for between $48 and $90.

What Is the Hazard?

A wire connection inside the recalled air fryer can overheat during use, posing fire and burn hazards. An overheating wire connection inside a high-temperature cooking appliance creates a meaningful risk of ignition, particularly given how often air fryers are used unattended on kitchen counters.

Incidents and Injuries

Secura has received nine reports of the recalled air fryers catching fire, burning, or smoking. No injuries or property damage have been reported in connection with these incidents to date.

What Should Consumers Do?

Consumers who own a recalled Secura air fryer should immediately stop using it. To receive a $45 Amazon gift card or a free replacement Secura product, consumers should cut the power cord, photograph the unit along with its date code, and submit the photos and their contact information at thesecura.com/recall — no receipt is required.

Consumers may also contact Secura toll-free at 888-792-2360, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PT, or by email at customercare@thesecura.com.

Can I File a Lawsuit?

Consumers who experienced a fire, burning, smoking, or other safety incident with a recalled Secura air fryer may have legal options. A class action lawsuit could allow affected consumers to seek compensation for property damage, medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other related losses.
