On July 2, 2026, Groupe SEB USA dba Rowenta USA of Parsippany, New Jersey announced a voluntary recall of certain X-Force Flex cordless vacuum cleaners with lithium-ion batteries in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. The vacuums were manufactured in France and the batteries in China.

What Products Are Affected?

The recall covers two Rowenta X-Force Flex cordless vacuum cleaner models sold in red, black, and silver, along with the Versatile X-Force lithium-ion battery sold separately:

  • Rowenta X-Force Flex 14.60 Animal Cordless Vacuum, Model RH99A2U1
  • Rowenta X-Force Flex 15.60 Animal Cordless Vacuum, Model RH99F2U1
  • Rowenta Versatile X-Force Lithium-Ion Battery, Model ZR0097U2

Only batteries with a date code beginning with either “23” or “24” are included in the recall — meaning affected batteries were manufactured before December 2024. The model number and date code are located on the back of the battery, which is housed in the vacuum’s handle.

The recalled vacuums and batteries were sold at Williams Sonoma and Crate & Barrel stores nationwide, and online at Rowentausa.com, Shopify.com, Amazon.com, and Walmart.com from July 2023 through January 2026 for between $250 and $550.

What Is the Hazard?

The recalled lithium-ion battery inside the vacuum’s handle can overheat and ignite during use or charging, posing a serious risk of fire and burn injuries. Because the battery is housed inside the vacuum’s handle — a component that users hold directly against their body during operation — a battery fire event can cause immediate and severe burns before the user has time to react.

Incidents and Injuries

Rowenta USA has received two U.S. reports of the lithium-ion battery overheating or failing to charge, in addition to 65 additional reports received globally. No injuries have been reported to date.

What Should Consumers Do?

Consumers who own either of the recalled Rowenta X-Force Flex vacuums should stop using the device immediately and remove the recalled lithium-ion battery from the handle. To receive a free replacement battery, consumers should register at www.rowentausa.com/recall-campaign-xforce and upload a photograph of the battery’s model number and date code for verification.

Once verified, Rowenta will ship a free replacement battery directly to the consumer. The recalled battery must be disposed of through a municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center — it must not be placed in regular trash, curbside recycling bins, or standard retail battery drop-off boxes. Consumers may contact Rowenta toll-free at 800-769-3682, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET, or visit www.rowentausa.com and click on “Recalls” at the bottom of the page.

Can I File a Lawsuit?

Consumers who purchased a recalled Rowenta X-Force Flex cordless vacuum — particularly those who suffered burn injuries or property damage when the battery overheated or caught fire — may have significant legal options. A class action lawsuit could allow affected consumers to seek compensation for medical expenses, property damage, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other related losses.
