Latest Updates
On June 17, 2020, Rexair LLC of Troy, Michigan announced a recall to repair its Rainbow SRX vacuum in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. An additional 4,800 units were sold in Canada. The vacuums were manufactured in the United States.
What Product Is Affected?
The recall covers the Rainbow SRX water-based filtration vacuum cleaner, Model RHCS19 Type 120, with serial numbers ranging from 22003399 through 22077889. The vacuum is predominantly black with blue trim and rubber trim around the base, with a clear water basin at the bottom and the “SRX” logo on the front panels.
The recalled vacuums were sold by independent authorized Rainbow distributors nationwide from June 2019 through June 2020 for approximately $3,200.
What Is the Hazard?
The circuit board inside the recalled Rainbow SRX vacuum can spark during use, posing a serious fire and burn hazard. A sparking circuit board inside a powered appliance can ignite surrounding components or nearby materials, creating a fire risk for the user and the surrounding area.
Incidents and Injuries
Rexair has received two reports of the recalled Rainbow SRX vacuum catching fire. No injuries have been reported in connection with these incidents to date.
