Update: Nevada Mom Alleges NutriBullet Explosion Caused Severe Hand Injuries
December 12, 2017 – A woman from Nevada says she was crippled after a NutriBullet blender exploded and mutilated her hand, according to TMZ. Plaintiff Wendy Littlefield of Las Vegas, Nevada, says she was using her NutriBullet to mix beans and tomatoes when the blender exploded, sending the blades slicing through her right hand.
What’s the Problem?
November 17, 2017 – At least 22 people have sued the makers of NutriBullet, alleging the blending devices caused them severe injuries including second-degree burns, nerve damage and lacerations, according to CBS News. Critics say the blender’s ultra-powerful 600-watt motor is to blame for most of these incidents.
“I want to tell the people don’t use this product no more because it’s dangerous,” said Rosa Rivera, mother of late singer Jenni Rivera and the most recent plaintiff to file suit. Rivera claims she was making chili last week when her NutriBullet 600 exploded in her hands, causing second and third degree burns to her hands, head, face and neck.
NutriBullet consists of a closed canister with blades that spin at tens of thousands of revolutions per minute (RPMs). The blender comes in the following models: NutriBullet Original, NutriBullet Pro, NutriBullet Lean, and NutriBullet RX.
The lawsuits contend that the high speeds at which the blades run create friction, heat, and a destabilized environment in which an explosion is likely to occur.
Sheryl Utal, a plaintiff in one of the new suits, said her NutriBullet worked great for years, until one morning it exploded after about 20 seconds, causing her second-degree burns.
“It just came flying out all over me, all over the kitchen, the ceilings, the walls,” Utal said. “And it was on my chest. It also had hit me in the face as well.”

Why Our Firm is Filing Individual Claims Rather Than a Class Action
Although we are a nationally recognized class action firm, our lawyers have decided against the filing of a class action lawsuit in the NutriBullet litigation, and are only filing individual claims on behalf of injured parties. We agreed that individual suits are in our clients’ best interests, as class actions in this type of product liability litigation typically result in “low-ball” settlement agreements intended to resolve the claims as quickly as possible.
At Schmidt & Clark, LLP we understand that our clients are suffering emotionally and economically due to loss of wages and/or high medical bills and we plan to maximize each client’s recovery by filing individual NutriBullet lawsuits on their behalf.
