What’s the Problem?

April 11, 2017 – Most of the Levaquin lawsuits filed against J&J were entered on behalf of plaintiffs alleging side effects including debilitating nerve damage or peripheral neuropathy from the drug.

In 2004, warnings were added to the labeling of all fluoroquinolone antibiotics regarding an increased risk for peripheral neuropathy associated with use of the medications. Plaintiffs argue that the warnings were not properly worded and that the verbiage indicates only a small chance of developing the disease.

Nearly a decade after the first warning, FDA updated the wording to indicate that fluoroquinolone nerve damage could be permanent. The agency also required manufacturers of the drugs to remove all wording indicating the condition was only a rare side effect.

However, between 2004 and 2013, thousands of people had already taken Levaquin and been injured by its side effects.
