Latest Updates
On November 22, 2023, Lenovo Inc. of Morrisville, North Carolina announced a voluntary recall of its USB-C Laptop Power Bank in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. Approximately 2,850 units are affected in the United States, along with approximately 510 units sold in Canada. The power banks were manufactured in China and imported by Lenovo Inc.
What Product Is Affected?
The recall covers the Lenovo USB-C Laptop Power Bank, Model PBLG2W, Part Number 40ALLG2WWW — a black, rectangular unit measuring approximately 7 inches long by 3 inches wide, with a 20,000 mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery. “Lenovo” is printed in black letters on a red tag on the USB power cord.
Not all units with these manufacturing dates are affected — Lenovo has identified specific serial numbers subject to the recall. Only units with a manufacturing date on the product label between December 2021 and June 2022 are potentially affected; the manufacturing date appears in year/month (YY/MM) format, and the affected date codes are 21/12, 22/01, 22/02, 22/03, 22/04, 22/05, and 22/06. Consumers should visit Lenovo’s dedicated recall webpage at support.lenovo.com/solutions/HT515669 and enter the serial number found on the product label to confirm whether their specific unit is included.
The recalled power banks were sold online at Lenovo.com, Newegg.com, CDW.com, Insight.com, Connection.com, SHI.com, Softchoice.com, eBay.com, and Staples.com from May 2022 through January 2023 for approximately $100.
What Is the Hazard?
The internal screws in the recalled power bank can come loose, causing a short circuit and overheating of the lithium-ion battery inside. An overheating lithium-ion battery can ignite — a hazard that is particularly dangerous in a device designed to be carried in bags, placed on desks, and used in proximity to people and property.
Incidents and Injuries
Lenovo has received one report of the recalled power bank catching fire and causing minimal property damage. No injuries have been reported in connection with this incident.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers who own the recalled Lenovo USB-C Laptop Power Bank should stop using it immediately. To receive a free replacement power bank, consumers should visit support.lenovo.com/solutions/HT515669, enter their serial number to confirm whether their unit is recalled, and follow Lenovo’s instructions for disposing of the recalled lithium-ion battery according to local and state regulations.

Note: the recalled device contains a lithium-ion battery that must not be placed in regular trash or standard retail battery recycling boxes — it must be disposed of according to local and state hazardous waste regulations.
Can I File a Lawsuit?
Consumers who experienced a fire or property damage from a recalled Lenovo USB-C Laptop Power Bank may have significant legal options against Lenovo Inc. and the retailers that sold the product. Contact an attorney promptly to have your case evaluated.
