What’s the Problem?
December 12, 2017 – Wendy Littlefield was using the NutriBullet to mix beans and tomatoes when she says the blender exploded and the blades sliced through her right hand, according to TMZ.
“I was in motion to turn it off and then there was the explosion,” Littlefield said. “It mangled my pinky finger, broke a lot of bones, mangled tendons.”
The blades sliced into Littlefield’s right hand, causing what she says could be catastrophic, lifelong injuries, which have already required at least 5 surgeries to treat.
Littlefield claims that despite these procedures, she can still barely move her fingers or make a fist.
She must now wear a protective glove to cushion her hand, and says she can no longer work with her daughter Cambrie, a kid beauty pageant hair and makeup consultant who has been featured on TLC’s Toddlers and Tiaras.
“My mom is my best friend and it’s so hard to see how hard she, on a daily basis — how much she struggles,” her daughter said.
Sadly, this is not an isolated case. At least 22 other people across the U.S. have filed suit against NutriBullet LLC, alleging similar injuries. They claim NutriBullet was manufactured defectively, and that high pressure and heat build up inside the blending pitchers during use, causing them to explode.
NutriBullet LLC has responded to the allegations by claiming that reports of injuries associated with NutriBullet are extremely rare, and that the appliance was designed in a manner consistent with safe use.
