About the Affected Products
The affected products are the Kalorik MAXX and MAXX Advance Air Fryer Ovens featuring a metal frame, spring-loaded glass French doors, and metal door handles. The ovens were sold at Walmart, Home Depot, Amazon, Kalorik.com, and specialty retailers nationwide — by Team International Group of America, Inc. and Kalorik, LLC from April 2020 through January 8, 2024, and by The Legacy Companies, LLC from June 23, 2025 onward.
Latest Updates
The CPSC issued Warning No. 27-033 on October 15, 2026, after receiving dozens of burn incident reports involving the French-door design and at least one report indicating second-degree burns with scarring [1]. The CPSC’s warning — rather than a formal recall — reflects the refusal of The Legacy Companies, LLC to participate in a voluntary recall, leaving the agency to act unilaterally to warn consumers [2]. No repair, refund, or replacement program exists; the CPSC directs owners to dispose of the oven under local e-waste rules and not to donate or resell it, as doing so would expose another household to the same hazard [3].
Spring-Loaded Doors That Snap Shut
The Kalorik MAXX French-door design uses spring-loaded glass doors — the same mechanical principle intended to keep the doors closed during cooking and to open smoothly when accessed. When the spring mechanism causes the doors to close suddenly and unexpectedly while a user’s arms are extended into the hot oven interior, the result is a pinching or impact injury to the arms against a surface that is operating at air-frying temperatures.
The doors close on the user’s arms while the oven is actively cooking — meaning the interior surfaces, the door glass, and the food compartment are all at elevated temperatures at the moment of impact. A burn injury from this mechanism combines the physical force of the door closing with direct contact against a hot cooking surface.
A Company That Refused a Recall
The CPSC’s decision to issue a consumer warning rather than announce a recall directly reflects The Legacy Companies, LLC’s refusal to cooperate with the voluntary recall process. When a manufacturer or brand owner declines to participate, the CPSC’s primary available action is a public stop-use warning — the agency does not have the authority to unilaterally compel a recall without initiating an administrative proceeding.
This creates a situation where consumers who own a product confirmed by the CPSC to have caused dozens of burn injuries have no manufacturer-sponsored remedy available: no refund check, no repair kit, no prepaid return label. The entire burden of remediation — unplugging, photographing the rating label, and e-waste disposal — falls on the consumer who purchased a product that the current brand owner is unwilling to stand behind.
Original Importers No Longer in Business
Team International Group of America, Inc. and Kalorik, LLC — the companies that originally imported and sold the Kalorik MAXX French-door ovens from April 2020 through early 2024 — have gone out of business. The brand was subsequently acquired by The Legacy Companies, LLC, which resumed sales in June 2025.
Consumers who purchased the oven from an original seller before January 2024 have no recourse against the original importer, which no longer exists, and no recourse against the current brand owner, which has declined to offer any remedy. The CPSC’s warning is the only official response available to the consumers who were burned.
Reported Injuries
The CPSC received dozens of burn injury reports involving the Kalorik MAXX French-door air fryer oven as of the October 15, 2026 warning, including at least one report of second-degree burns with scarring. The total number of injuries and the full range of burn severity were not quantified further in the CPSC’s warning notice.
Can I File a Lawsuit?
If you suffered a burn injury caused by the spring-loaded doors closing on your arms while using a Kalorik MAXX or MAXX Advance Air Fryer Oven with French doors, you may have a product liability claim against The Legacy Companies, LLC or other parties in the distribution chain. Contact an attorney promptly, as state filing deadlines apply.
