Overview
Igloo Products Corp., based in Katy, Texas, has expanded its recall of 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers, adding 130,000 units to the over one million recalled in February 2025, totaling nearly 1.2 million affected coolers. These coolers, sold for $80–$140 at retailers like Costco, Target, Academy, Dick’s, and online at Amazon.com and Igloocoolers.com from January 2019 to January 2025, feature a defective tow handle that can pinch fingertips, causing severe injuries. The recall covers coolers manufactured before January 2024, identifiable by a date code on the bottom in a circular pattern, with an arrow pointing to the month and the last two digits of the year [1].
Affected Cooler Models
The recall includes the following models, with “IGLOO” printed on the side and model numbers on labels affixed to the bottom:
- Model 34692: LATITUDE 90 QT ROLLER (Ash Gray Body, Aegean Sea Lid, Black Tow Handle; date codes 07/2020–09/2021)
- Model 34785: LATITUDE 90 QT ROLLER (White Body and Lid; date codes 10/2021–12/2022)
- Model 34790: MAXCOLD LATITUDE 90 QT ROLLER (Ash Gray Body, Aegean Sea Lid, White Tow Handle; date codes 10/2021–02/2023)
These coolers, designed for outdoor activities like camping and tailgating, pose a significant safety risk due to the defective tow handle.
Hazards of the Defective Tow Handle
The tow handle can pinch fingers against the cooler body during extension or retraction, leading to crushing or amputation injuries. Since the initial recall, Igloo has reported 78 fingertip injuries, including 26 cases of amputations, bone fractures, or lacerations, highlighting the defect’s severity.
Symptoms of Injuries from the Defective Tow Handle
Consumers affected by the defective tow handle may experience:
- Intense pain or numbness in the fingertip immediately after pinching
- Visible crushing, laceration, or partial/total fingertip amputation
- Bone fractures or breaks in the affected finger
- Swelling, bruising, or bleeding at the injury site
- Reduced finger mobility or permanent nerve damage
These injuries can lead to medical complications, such as infections or chronic pain, requiring immediate attention.

Claims could include product liability, breach of warranty, or failure to warn, seeking compensation for medical costs, pain and suffering, lost wages, or reduced product value. If evidence of manufacturing negligence surfaces, punitive damages may also be pursued. A class action could unify affected owners to address the financial and safety impacts of this widespread defect.
