On July 22, 2026, Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. announced a voluntary recall of 1,589,577 dozen white shell and brown cage-free shell eggs produced at its Texas farms due to possible Salmonella Enteritidis contamination [1]. Country Morning is one of five brand names included in the recall, alongside Kroger, Simple Truth Cage Free, Brookshire’s, and Sunups. The FDA published the recall notice on July 23, 2026.
What Products Are Affected?
The recall covers Country Morning-branded white shell eggs in medium, large, extra-large, and jumbo sizes. To determine whether a carton is included in the recall, consumers should check the left or right side of the carton for an identifying code printed in date-coding ink — not the brand labeling or sell-by date alone — and look for the following:
- Plant code P-1950 or 0840962
- Julian Date between 157 and 184
- Sell-by or best-by date between July 20, 2026 and August 17, 2026
The recalled eggs were produced at Midwest Poultry Services farms in Texas between June 6 and July 3, 2026, and distributed to retail outlets in Texas, Louisiana, and other states served by the affected facilities.
What Is the Hazard?
The recalled eggs have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis, a bacterium capable of causing serious and sometimes fatal infections. Young children, elderly individuals, and people with weakened immune systems face the greatest risk of severe illness.
Symptoms typically appear within six hours to six days of consuming contaminated eggs and can include fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and severe abdominal cramps. In rare cases, Salmonella can enter the bloodstream and lead to conditions including arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
What Caused the Recall?
Midwest Poultry Services identified the possible contamination through proactive environmental monitoring and root-cause analysis at two Texas farms. Upon identifying the issue, the company halted all distribution of fresh eggs from its Texas facilities and initiated the voluntary recall.
Incidents and Injuries
No confirmed illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled Country Morning eggs as of the July 22, 2026 recall date. Because affected cartons with sell-by dates as late as August 17, 2026 may still be in consumers’ refrigerators, consumers should check their cartons without delay.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers who purchased Country Morning eggs should immediately check the plant code and Julian Date printed in date-coding ink on the left or right side of the carton. Recalled eggs should not be consumed and should be returned to the original place of purchase for a full refund.
