Latest Updates
On July 25, 2024, DGL Group Ltd. of Edison, New Jersey announced a voluntary recall of its Hover-1 Dynamo e-scooters in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. Approximately 4,200 units are affected. The e-scooters were manufactured in China and imported by DGL Group Ltd.
What Product Is Affected?
The recall covers Hover-1 Dynamo e-scooters with certain serial numbers, specifically those with the letters “WY” as the seventh and eighth characters. The serial number is located on a label on the underside of the scooter.
The recalled two-wheeled scooters are matte black with a kickstand and reflective lights at the front and back of the stand board, with the “Hover-1” logo on the stand board and stem. The scooters were sold exclusively online at Walmart.com from November 2021 through July 2022 for approximately $200.
What Is the Hazard?
The brakes on the recalled Hover-1 Dynamo e-scooter can fail during use, posing a serious risk of injury and crash hazard. A sudden brake failure while riding an e-scooter — particularly at speed or in traffic — gives the rider little to no opportunity to avoid a fall or collision.
Incidents and Injuries
DGL Group has received 22 reports of the e-scooter’s brakes failing. Those incidents resulted in seven reported injuries, including abrasions, contusions, a dislocated shoulder, fractured teeth, lacerations, and strains.
What Caused the Recall?
The recall was initiated after DGL Group identified that the braking system on the affected serial number range can fail unexpectedly during normal use. The defect leaves riders without reliable stopping power, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers who own a recalled Hover-1 Dynamo e-scooter should stop using it immediately and contact DGL Group for instructions on how to receive a full refund. As part of the refund process, consumers will be required to sever the motor cable and submit photographs of both the serial number and the severed cable.
Consumers may contact DGL Group toll-free at 844-451-7300, Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET, or online at hover-1.com/pages/dynamo_recall.
Can I File a Lawsuit?
Consumers who were injured when the brakes failed on a recalled Hover-1 Dynamo e-scooter — particularly those who suffered fractures, dislocations, or lacerations — may have significant legal options. A class action lawsuit could allow affected consumers to seek compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other related losses. Contact an attorney to learn more about your rights.
