Latest Updates

On December 9, 2020, GrillBlazer LLC of Chouteau, Oklahoma announced a voluntary recall of its Su-VGun and GrillGun propane torch guns in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. Approximately 10,000 units are affected. No injuries have been reported to date, but the volume of reported propane leaks and fires makes this a significant product safety concern.

What Products Are Affected?

The recall covers two high-powered propane torch gun models sold by GrillBlazer:

  • GrillBlazer Su-VGun – A propane torch gun designed to sear meat. Black in color with “Su-VGun” printed in yellow on the barrel. Measures 14.5 inches by 8 inches by 2 inches.
  • GrillBlazer GrillGun – A high-powered propane torch gun designed to light charcoal, wood grills, and smokers, and for other applications requiring a clean-burning propane flame. Black in color with “GrillGun” printed in yellow on the barrel. Measures 21 inches by 8 inches by 2 inches.

The recalled torch guns were sold exclusively online at www.grillblazer.com, Kickstarter.com, and Indiegogo.com from December 2019 through July 2020 for approximately $150. The torch guns were manufactured in China and imported by GrillBlazer LLC.

What Is the Hazard?

Propane gas can leak from the recalled torch guns during use, posing a serious fire hazard to consumers and anyone nearby. Because the Su-VGun and GrillGun are designed to produce open flames at high temperatures, any propane leak creates a significant risk that the leaking gas could ignite suddenly and unexpectedly, potentially causing serious burns, property damage, or worse.

Incidents and Injuries

GrillBlazer received 260 reports of propane leaking from the recalled torch guns. Three of those incidents escalated into fires. No injuries have been reported in connection with the recall, but the sheer number of propane leak reports — and the fact that three resulted in fires — underscores the seriousness of the defect.

What Caused the Recall?

The recall was initiated after GrillBlazer identified that propane gas can escape from the torch guns during use, creating a fire hazard. The company determined that a free repair — if required after an inspection — would address the defect. GrillBlazer is working with consumers directly to assess each unit and provide repairs where needed. The torch guns were manufactured in China and distributed by GrillBlazer LLC of Chouteau, Oklahoma.

What Should Consumers Do?

Consumers who own the recalled GrillBlazer Su-VGun or GrillGun propane torch guns should stop using them immediately and contact GrillBlazer for instructions on how to receive a free repair, if required.

Can I File a Lawsuit?

Consumers who purchased a recalled GrillBlazer Su-VGun or GrillGun torch — particularly those who experienced a propane leak, fire, or property damage as a result — may have legal options. A class action lawsuit could allow affected consumers to seek compensation for property damage, medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other related losses.
