According to the GNC website, Grenade Thermo Detonator “is an extreme thermogenic containing a devastating arsenal of ingredients formulated to combat fat, deliver explosive, sustained energy with no jitters, no cravings, no crash.” The labeling of Grenade Thermo Detonator states that the product contains green tea (500mg), bitter orange powder (420mg), caffeine (225mg), cayenne (200mg), phenylalanine (25mg), and green coffee (10mg).
What’s the Problem?
A recent class action lawsuit was filed against GNC in the Northern District of Illinois by a man who claims he almost died after taking an amphetamine-contaminated dose of Grenade Thermo Detonator. Plaintiff Jay Rossi claims he purchased a bottle of the supplement in 2017 from a GNC store in Mount Prospect, Illinois. After taking the product as directed, Rossi experienced an adverse reaction and was rushed to an emergency room, the complaint states. Rossi stopped breathing on the way to the hospital, and toxicology tests found the presence of amphetamines in his system, despite “never knowingly ingesting any amphetamines in the days or weeks leading up to” his adverse reaction, according to the lawsuit.
