The CPSC Warning
On December 19, 2024, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a product safety warning urging all consumers to immediately stop using and dispose of FLIKRFIRE Tabletop Fireplaces due to the risk of uncontrollable pool fires and fatal flame jetting [1]. The warning is significant because the CPSC issued it despite the fact that FLIKR LLC, the manufacturer, is no longer in business — meaning no recall remedy is available and no corporate entity is cooperating with regulators.
What FLIKRFIRE Products Are Affected?
The warning covers all FLIKRFIRE Tabletop Fireplace models, including square, round, XL, and mini versions. The products are small, decorative bowls or open containers designed to burn isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol poured directly into the bowl and ignited in the same location.
The affected products were sold at a wide range of premium and mainstream retailers including Amazon.com, Macy’s, Nordstrom, CB2, Neiman Marcus, Huckberry, Bespoke Post, Touch of Modern, and others from 2018 through 2024 for between $35 and $105.
Why FLIKRFIRE Is So Dangerous
FLIKRFIRE’s design requires consumers to pour isopropyl alcohol into an open bowl and ignite it in the same spot — a process the CPSC has identified as violating voluntary safety standard ASTM F3363-19. Isopropyl alcohol burns at temperatures exceeding 1,600°F and can cause third-degree burns in under one second.
The product creates two distinct and deadly hazards. First, igniting pooled alcohol in an open bowl creates an uncontrollable pool fire that can suddenly produce larger, hotter flames extending far beyond the fireplace. Second, because alcohol burns with a nearly colorless and nearly invisible flame, users often cannot tell whether the FLIKRFIRE is still lit before attempting to add more fuel — causing a flame jetting explosion that propels burning liquid onto the user and anyone nearby.
Incidents and Injuries
The CPSC has confirmed that flame jetting contributed to the June 2024 deaths of two people when a bystander attempted to refuel a FLIKRFIRE that appeared extinguished. In at least three additional separate incidents, FLIKRFIRE use resulted in third- or fourth-degree burns to extensive areas of consumers’ bodies.
The Manufacturer No Longer Exists — What That Means for Victims
FLIKR LLC, the company that manufactured FLIKRFIRE Tabletop Fireplaces, is no longer in business and never agreed to provide a recall remedy. Seera Creative LLC, its prior manufacturer, is also no longer in business. That leaves consumers with no path to a refund or replacement through the company — but it does not necessarily eliminate legal options against the retailers that sold the product.
Under product liability law, retailers and online platforms that sold a dangerous product can face liability regardless of whether the manufacturer remains in business. Attorneys are currently investigating claims against the retailers and platforms that continued selling FLIKRFIRE products despite the product’s known dangers.
Can I File a Lawsuit?
Consumers who were burned while using a FLIKRFIRE Tabletop Fireplace — or families of individuals who were killed in a flame jetting incident — may have significant legal options against the retailers, platforms, and distributors that sold the product. A class action lawsuit could allow affected consumers to seek compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, permanent scarring or disfigurement, wrongful death, lost wages, and other related losses. Contact an attorney as soon as possible to have your case evaluated.
