On May 28, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a voluntary recall of portable steam saunas sold under the Costway brand by Giantex Inc. of Ontario, California [1]. The same recall also covers saunas sold under the Giantex brand name. Approximately 1,000 units in total are affected.
What Products Are Affected?
The recall covers Costway-branded 2-liter and 3-liter portable steam saunas sold online at Amazon and Walmart from January 2023 through December 2025 for between $68 and $100. Each sauna was sold as a set that included a folding chair, foot roller, felt mat, and remote control, with an enclosure available in black, copper, beige, blue, green, and pink.
Consumers can identify whether their sauna is included in the recall by checking the model number and SKU printed on the product packaging. The affected Costway model numbers include BA7635US-BK, BA7635US-CF, BA7635US-GR, BA7635US-NY, BA7733US-BK, BA7733US-CF, BA7733US-GR, BA7733US-PI, BA7579US-BK, BA7579US-CF, and BA7579US-GR. The corresponding SKUs can be confirmed on the CPSC recall page.
What Is the Hazard?
The steam diffuser inside the sauna enclosure can be positioned too close to the user’s body, allowing high-temperature steam to come into direct contact with the skin. Unlike a traditional sauna where heat is dispersed across a room, a portable steam sauna concentrates hot steam in an enclosed space just inches from the user’s body — making precise steam diffuser placement critical to consumer safety.
Incidents and Injuries
Giantex Inc. reported nine consumer incidents involving burns to the hands, feet, and other extremities during use of the recalled saunas. One consumer suffered a second-degree burn, which can cause blistering, significant pain, and may require medical treatment.
Why Was This Product Allowed on the Market?
The recalled Costway sauna was manufactured in China and sold exclusively through third-party online retail platforms, including Amazon and Walmart, without adequate safeguards to prevent the steam diffuser from coming dangerously close to the user. The design flaw that allowed this hazard to exist — and the injuries that resulted — raise serious questions about the adequacy of the product’s safety testing before it was made available to the public.
What Should Consumers Do?
Anyone who owns a recalled Costway portable steam sauna should stop using it immediately and keep it unplugged. To obtain a full refund, consumers must cut the power cord to the steam unit after unplugging it, photograph the destroyed product, and submit the image to Giantex.
Refund requests can be submitted by email at support@giantex.com or through the recall portal at www.giantex.com/pages/product-recall-notice. Consumers may also call Giantex toll-free at 844-242-1885, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Can I File a Lawsuit?
Consumers who purchased a recalled Costway portable steam sauna and suffered burn injuries as a result may have grounds for significant legal action. A class action lawsuit could provide a path to compensation for medical bills, pain and suffering, lost income, and other damages tied to this defective product. Contact an attorney promptly to understand your options and protect your rights.
