Latest Updates
On June 4, 2026, the CPSC issued a product safety warning urging consumers to immediately stop using COOWALK/COOWALI heated insoles due to the risk of serious burn injury and fire [1]. Approximately 6,000 units are affected. The manufacturer, Shenzhen Kubuzhineng Kejiyouxiangongsi of China, has not responded to CPSC requests for a recall or for additional product safety information.
What Products Are Affected?
The warning covers COOWALK/COOWALI heated insoles sold in black and red. The insoles contain a lithium-ion battery in the heel area and are operated using a remote control, with “COOWALK” or “COOWALI” printed on the sole.
The insoles were sold online at Amazon.com and GearTrade.com from August 2022 through May 2026. They were manufactured in China by Shenzhen Kubuzhineng Kejiyouxiangongsi.
What Is the Hazard?
The internal lithium-ion battery inside the recalled insoles can explode and ignite — even when the insoles are turned off. Because the battery sits in the heel area of a shoe insert worn directly against the foot, any explosion or ignition exposes the wearer to immediate and severe burn risk with virtually no opportunity to remove the product before injury occurs.
Incidents and Injuries
The CPSC is aware of 26 reports of fires, explosions, and other thermal incidents involving the defective insoles. These incidents have resulted in at least 23 reported burn injuries, including serious second- and third-degree burns that required skin graft surgery.
What Should Consumers Do?
The CPSC urges consumers to dispose of the defective heated insoles immediately and follow local hazardous waste disposal procedures. Defective lithium-ion batteries should never be placed in regular trash, curbside recycling bins, or standard used-battery collection boxes found at retail stores.
Consumers should contact their municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center to confirm it accepts defective lithium-ion batteries before bringing the product in for disposal. Any incidents involving injury or product defects should be reported to the CPSC at www.SaferProducts.gov, or by calling the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 800-638-8270), available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET.
Can I File a Lawsuit?
Consumers who suffered burn injuries from a COOWALK or COOWALI heated insole that ignited or exploded — particularly those who required medical treatment or skin graft surgery — may have significant legal options. A class action lawsuit could allow injured consumers to seek compensation for medical expenses, surgical costs, pain and suffering, permanent scarring or disfigurement, lost wages, and other related losses. Contact an attorney as soon as possible to learn more about your rights.
