Latest Updates
On October 23, 2025, J & D Brush Co., LLC of Commack, New York announced a voluntary recall of the Bio Ionic One-Inch-Long Barrel Curling Iron in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. Approximately 357,000 units are affected in the United States, with an additional 3,000 units sold in Canada.
What Products Are Affected?
The recall covers the Bio Ionic One-Inch-Long Barrel Curling Iron, model number LXT-CL-1.0, with a date code between 0722 and 1223. The curling iron has a black handle and black barrel, measures approximately 15.8 inches long by 2.87 inches high by 1.65 inches wide, and weighs about 15 ounces. A blue BIOIONIC logo appears on the handle along with a black label containing operating instructions.
To determine whether a curling iron is included in the recall, consumers should check two locations:
- The model number (LXT-CL-1.0) is printed on the rating label located on the handle.
- The date code is engraved on the prongs of the plug in the format MMYY (month and year). Only units with date codes between 0722 and 1223 are recalled.
The recalled curling irons were sold at Amazon and Bioionic.com, as well as in-store and online at Salon Centric, Ulta, Sephora, and Nordstrom, and in salons and beauty supply stores nationwide from August 2022 through July 2024 for approximately $165.
What Is the Hazard?
The barrel of the recalled Bio Ionic curling iron can snap and detach from the handle during use. When the barrel separates, the extremely hot surface can make direct contact with the user’s skin, hands, or scalp, posing a serious burn hazard. Curling iron barrels operate at temperatures high enough to cause significant burns in a fraction of a second.
Incidents and Injuries
J & D Brush has received 258 reports of the curling iron barrel detaching during use. Of those incidents, six resulted in minor burn injuries to consumers.
What Caused the Recall?
The recall was initiated after the company identified a structural defect in the barrel assembly that allows the barrel to snap and separate from the handle during normal use. The defect affects units manufactured between July 2022 and December 2023, as indicated by the date code engraved on the plug prongs. The curling irons were manufactured in China and imported by J & D Brush Co., LLC.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers who own a recalled Bio Ionic One-Inch-Long Barrel Curling Iron should stop using it immediately, unplug it, and contact Bio Ionic to register for a free replacement curling iron. As part of the remedy process, consumers will be asked to cut off the plug from the cord and return it to Bio Ionic using a prepaid shipping label provided by the company.
Consumers may contact Bio Ionic toll-free at 877-853-9627, Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET, by email at longbarrelsupport@bbicompany.com, or online at www.bioionic.com by clicking on “Product Recalls” at the bottom of the page.
Can I File a Lawsuit?
Consumers who purchased the recalled Bio Ionic One-Inch-Long Barrel Curling Iron — particularly those who suffered burn injuries when the barrel detached — may have legal options. A class action lawsuit could allow affected consumers to seek compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other related losses.
