On May 14, 2026, Amazon.com Services LLC of Seattle, Washington announced a voluntary recall of the Amazon Basics 55 Lbs. Adjustable Dumbbells in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. Amazon has received eight reports of weight plates failing to engage completely during weight adjustment and dislodging during use. No injuries have been reported to date.
What Products Are Affected?
The recall covers the Amazon Basics 55 Lbs. Adjustable Dumbbells, sold in pairs and as single units in black. The dumbbells include handles, weight plates, and a molded plastic tray, and adjust from 5 to 55 pounds using manual adjustment knobs while the weights are nested in the base. Approximately 2,900 units are affected.
The affected product can be identified by the following manufacturing lot code printed on the outer cardboard packaging box:

The recalled dumbbells were sold exclusively on Amazon.com from July 2025 through September 2025 for between $170 and $320.
What Is the Hazard?
The weight plates on the recalled dumbbells can fail to engage completely during weight adjustment. When the dumbbell is then lifted or used, the plates can dislodge from the handle, posing a serious impact hazard to the user or anyone nearby. A falling weight plate during exercise could cause significant injury, particularly to the feet, hands, or other body parts in close proximity to the dumbbell.
Incidents and Injuries
Amazon has received eight reports of weight plates failing to engage and dislodging from the dumbbell handle during use. No injuries have been reported in connection with these incidents.
What Caused the Recall?
The recall was initiated after Amazon identified a defect in the weight adjustment mechanism of the affected lot. The manual adjustment knobs, which are used to dial in the desired weight while the dumbbell rests in its base, can allow weight plates to appear engaged when they are not fully locked into place. When the user then picks up the handle, the loose plates can separate and fall.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers who own the recalled Amazon Basics 55 Lbs. Adjustable Dumbbells should stop using them immediately. To receive a full refund, consumers should register at https://amazondumbbellrecall.expertinquiry.com, where they will be provided with a prepaid shipping label to return the dumbbell handle to Amazon. Upon receipt, Amazon will issue a full refund to the original payment method or in the form of an Amazon gift card.
