What is the Dynasty Acetabular Cup System?
The Wright Dynasty is a modular cup system that features multiple bearing surface screw fixation which accommodates large diameter heads. The device accepts BFH CoCr heads up to 56mm and BCH large diameter ceramic heads up to 54mm.
Hip Replacement Complications
When the Dynasty Acetabular Cup is used with a metal femoral head, a metal-on-metal hip implant is created. According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), when the metal components rub against each other, they release microscopic metal particles into the blood and surrounding tissues. Over time, this can result in complications including:
- Pain
- Swelling
- Soft-tissue growths
- Systemic reactions
- The need for revision surgery
Wright Dynasty MDL
There is currently no class action lawsuit in the Dynasty hip implant litigation. However, in February 2012 all federal lawsuits alleging injuries from the Wright Conserve, Profemur, Dynasty and Lineage devices were centralized as part of a multidistrict litigation (MDL) in the Northern District of Georgia before Judge William S. Wright Hip Settlements
Wright Medical Technology in Nov. 2013 agreed to pay $240 million to settle about 85% of the 2,600 pending lawsuits alleging injuries from its metal hip replacement devices. Nearly 1,300 people who needed revision surgery within 8 years are eligible — up to $170,000 for the Conserve Cup, and $120,000 for the Dynasty or Lineage metal liners.
