Update: Winnebago Recalls Micro Minnie Trailers Sold With Dangerous Undersized Axles
The NHTSA on Dec. 18, 2020, announced that Winnebago is recalling 2021 Micro Minnie travel trailers which were manufactured with 2,500 lb rated axles instead of the correct 4,000 lb axle. “These trailers were built with undersized axles that may not support the weight of the vehicle and could break,” NHTSA said. “If the axle breaks, it could result in serious injury or death.” If you purchased a travel trailer that is affected by this recall, you should stop using it immediately and contact your Winnebago dealer for a free repair.
What’s the Problem?
This NHTSA Recall began on August 17, 2020, and affects 2019-2020 Winnebago Micro Minnie 5 travel trailers.
An emergency exit window was not installed in the bedroom of affected Winnebagos, NHTSA said. This could prevent occupants from escaping in case of a fire or other emergency where access to the entry door is blocked.
