May 7, 2026 – Jonco Industries, Inc. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin recalled consumer-sized white cheddar seasoning products distributed in limited quantities through retail stores after being notified by its seasoning supplier, JCB Flavors, of potential Salmonella contamination in upstream milk powder from California Dairies, Inc. No illnesses have been reported to date [1], [2], [3].

Three Products Recalled

The recall affects white cheddar seasoning in the following formats:

  • Williams Sonoma Popcorn Sampler Gift Box (lot code 088594-2-1)
  • Fireworks Popcorn Poppings & Toppings gift set sold at West Allis Cheese and Sausage (lot code 088594-5-1)
  • Fireworks White Cheddar Seasoning 1.6 oz jars sold at West Allis Cheese and Sausage (lot code 088594-7-1)

Williams Sonoma Gift Box

The Williams Sonoma Popcorn Sampler Gift Box contains a white cheddar seasoning component as part of the sampler. Consumers who purchased this gift box must check the lot code on the seasoning container to determine recall status.

Limited Distribution

Unlike most nationwide recalls, these products distributed in limited quantities through select retail stores. Williams Sonoma sold the gift boxes while West Allis Cheese and Sausage in Wisconsin carried the Fireworks brand products.

California Dairies Contamination Chain

This recall joins a growing list of products affected by California Dairies’ contaminated milk powder including Mama Cozzi’s breakfast pizzas, Zapp’s potato chips, Dirty chips, Fisher nuts, Southern Style Nuts, and Squirrel Brand snack mixes. The same upstream ingredient contamination impacted multiple food manufacturers and brands.

JCB Flavors Supplier Role

JCB Flavors of Watertown, Wisconsin manufactured the seasoning using California Dairies milk powder. When JCB Flavors discovered the contamination risk, they notified downstream customers including Jonco Industries.

Three-Tier Supply Chain

California Dairies supplied contaminated milk powder to JCB Flavors, who manufactured seasoning for Jonco Industries, who sold finished products to retailers like Williams Sonoma. This three-tier supply chain delayed contamination discovery and consumer notification.

Lot Code Verification

Consumers must check lot codes printed on product packaging to determine recall status. Each product has a specific lot code—not all Williams Sonoma or Fireworks products are recalled.

No Illnesses Reported

Jonco Industries received no illness reports connected to these products as of the recall announcement. The preventive recall followed supplier notification before consumers became sick.

Salmonella Health Risks

Salmonella causes serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals typically experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain within 12 to 72 hours.

Bloodstream Complications

In rare cases, Salmonella enters the bloodstream causing infected aneurysms, endocarditis, and arthritis. These severe complications require aggressive medical treatment.

Williams Sonoma Brand Impact

Williams Sonoma markets premium kitchen and food products. The contamination affected their branded gift box, associating the upscale retailer with a food safety incident despite the contamination originating with a distant upstream supplier.

West Allis Cheese and Sausage

This Wisconsin specialty shop sold both Fireworks gift sets and individual seasoning jars. Small specialty retailers face particular challenges tracking and removing recalled products compared to major chains.

Immediate Distribution Halt

Jonco Industries immediately ceased distribution of affected products, notified customers, and placed all remaining inventory on hold. Swift action prevented additional contaminated seasoning from reaching consumers.

Return for Refund

Consumers should not consume recalled products and should return them to the place of purchase for full refunds. For questions, contact Jonco Industries at 414-449-2000 during normal business hours.

Gift Box Complications

The Williams Sonoma Popcorn Sampler Gift Box contains multiple components beyond just the contaminated seasoning. Consumers must return the entire gift box even though only the white cheddar seasoning component is contaminated.

Preventive Recall Action

Jonco Industries issued this recall proactively based on supplier notification rather than after detecting contamination in finished products. This preventive approach protects consumers before illnesses occur.

Contact an Attorney

If you became ill with Salmonella after consuming Williams Sonoma or Fireworks popcorn seasoning, contact a product liability attorney. Preserve product packaging with lot codes, save medical records, and keep purchase receipts.
