Latest Updates
On May 6, 2026, JCB Flavors, LLC of Watertown, Wisconsin announced a voluntary recall of select topical seasoning products. The FDA published the recall announcement on May 7, 2026 [1]. No illnesses or injuries associated with the recalled products have been reported to date, and third-party laboratory testing of finished products has not identified contamination. JCB Flavors is taking this action out of an abundance of caution.
What Products Are Affected?
The recall covers one product sold in 1.6 oz retail containers through e-commerce platforms and retail stores nationwide:
- Wildlife Seasoning Popping Topping – Sour Cream & Onion, 1.6 oz (UPC: 0-31851-01001-6, Lot Number: 057596, Best By: 5/18/2027)
Consumers should check the UPC, lot number, and Best By date on their product packaging to determine whether their purchase is included in the recall.
What Is the Hazard?
The recalled seasoning has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections. Young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems are at the greatest risk of severe illness.
Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can enter the bloodstream and lead to more serious conditions, including arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
What Caused the Recall?
The recall was initiated because the affected seasoning products were manufactured using a milk powder ingredient that is subject to a separate voluntary recall issued by California Dairies, Inc. due to potential Salmonella contamination. That milk powder was used in the production of the Wildlife Seasoning Sour Cream & Onion popcorn topping.
Although no contamination has been detected in finished product testing, JCB Flavors chose to recall the affected products as a precautionary measure to protect consumer safety.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers who purchased the recalled Wildlife Seasoning Popping Topping – Sour Cream & Onion should not consume or use the product. It should be returned to the place of purchase or discarded.

A class action lawsuit could allow affected consumers to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other related losses. Contact an attorney to learn more about your rights.
