On June 4, 2026, Target announced a voluntary recall of Up & Up Fragrance Free and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes following customer complaints of product discoloration and FDA testing that confirmed microbial contamination. The FDA published the recall announcement on June 5, 2026 [1]. Target and the manufacturer, Sapro Temizlik Urunleri, have received consumer complaints and adverse event reports alleging product discoloration and symptoms including skin irritation, eye irritation, and infections. Those reports remain under investigation.
What Products Are Affected?
The recall covers Up & Up Fragrance Free Baby Wipes in 20, 72, 216, 800, and 1200 count sizes, and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes in 72, 216, and 800 count sizes — all sold at Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com. Fragrance Free wipes with manufacturing date codes from November 7, 2025 (071125X/XX) through May 5, 2026 (050526X/XXX) and expiration dates between May 10, 2028 and November 5, 2028 are included in the recall.
Fresh Cucumber Scented wipes with manufacturing codes of December 29–30, 2025 (291225X/XX and 301225X/XX) and expiration dates of June 29–30, 2028 are also included. Manufacturing and expiration codes are printed on the product packaging and can be used to confirm whether a specific package is subject to the recall.
What Is the Hazard?
The recalled wipes have been found to contain Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli — opportunistic bacteria that pose a particularly serious risk to the very population for whom these products are designed. In healthy individuals, contact with contaminated wipes on skin with minor lesions is more likely to result in localized infection.
However, in newborns, infants, young children, and immunocompromised individuals, the infection is more likely to enter the bloodstream, potentially leading to life-threatening sepsis or pneumonia. Because baby wipes are used routinely during diaper changes and on sensitive skin, the potential for repeated exposure to contaminated product is a serious concern.

Target and manufacturer Sapro Temizlik Urunleri have received multiple consumer complaints and adverse event reports alleging product discoloration and symptoms including skin irritation, eye irritation, and infections potentially associated with use of the recalled wipes. The investigation into those reports is ongoing.
What Caused the Recall?
The recall was triggered by customer complaints about product discoloration, which prompted FDA testing of product samples. That testing confirmed the presence of Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli in the wipes. The recalled wipes were manufactured by Sapro Temizlik Urunleri and distributed exclusively through Target stores and Target.com.
What Should Parents Do?
Parents and caregivers who have the recalled Up & Up baby wipes should immediately stop using them and return them to any Target store for a full refund — no receipt is required. Any open packages should be discarded and kept out of reach of children.
