What’s the Problem?
According to a Recall Notice issued by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration on 6/5/20, this action affects:
- Product name: Metformin Hydrochloride Extended Release Tablets USP, 500 mg
- Lot #: XP9004
- Expiry Date (MM/YYYY): 12/2020
Marksans Pharma Limited issued the recall after FDA tests found the metformin to contain NDMA levels in excess of the Acceptable Daily Intake Limit (ADI) of 96ng/day.
“NDMA is classified as a probable human carcinogen (a substance that could cause cancer) based on results from laboratory tests,” FDA said. “NDMA is a known environmental contaminant and found in water and foods, including meats, dairy products, and vegetables.”
If you were prescribed any metformin that is included in this recall, you should contact Time-Cap Labs for information about a return/replacement. Anyone concerned about a potential adverse reaction to NDMA in metformin should consult their physician.
