On July 2, 2026, Target of Minneapolis, Minnesota announced a voluntary recall of the Gigglescape Under the Sea Popping Toy in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. Approximately 49,000 units are affected. The toy was manufactured in China and imported by Target.
What Product Is Affected?
The recall covers the Gigglescape Under the Sea Popping Toy, a children’s sensory toy featuring a clear plastic dome attached to a blue plastic base shaped like a whale. Colored balls are housed inside the dome and pop up when a child pushes an external plunger on top.
The Gigglescape brand name is printed on the front of the product packaging and imprinted on the bottom of the blue plastic base. The recalled toys were sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide from August 2025 through January 2026 for approximately $10.
What Is the Hazard?
The clear plastic dome can detach from the blue plastic base during normal use, making the small plastic balls inside the toy accessible to young children. Small balls and other loose components pose a serious choking hazard to children under three, who may place them in their mouths without understanding the danger.
Incidents and Injuries
Target has received nine reports of the dome detaching from the toy’s base, allowing children to access the small plastic balls inside. One of those incidents involved a child who began to choke.
What Should Parents Do?
Parents and caregivers who own the recalled Gigglescape Under the Sea Popping Toy should stop using it immediately and keep it away from children. To receive a full refund, consumers should return the toy to any Target store — no receipt is required.
