The Sunjoy Oakmont LP Fire Pit Table Recall
On November 10, 2020, the CPSC announced the recall of approximately 10,900 Sunjoy Oakmont LP Fire Pit Tables after the company received 17 reports of incorrectly installed burner kit hoses melting and igniting [1]. Of those 17 reports, 12 fire pit tables ignited — resulting in four incidents of minor property damage and one consumer who suffered a burn to the hand.
The recalled Oakmont LP Fire Pit Tables were natural tile, square units measuring approximately 38 inches wide, 38 inches deep, and 25.6 inches high, with a powder-coated steel frame and an all-weather wicker base that concealed a 20-pound liquid propane tank. The tables operated with push-button ignition and an adjustable flame, and were sold exclusively at Big Lots stores nationwide and online from January 2020 through June 2020 for approximately $480. Sunjoy provided a free replacement burner kit and installation instructions as the remedy.
Sunjoy’s Current Fire Pit Lineup
Sunjoy continues to sell a wide range of fire pit products through major retailers and its own website, spanning propane fire pit tables, wood-burning fire pits, and other configurations. Because Sunjoy’s product lineup has evolved and expanded since the 2020 recall, product identification is critical after any incident involving a Sunjoy fire pit.
The type of fuel, the model of the unit, the age of purchase, where the product was purchased, and how the fire started are all factors that may become legally significant in a product liability claim. In December 2024, the CPSC issued a sweeping consumer alert declaring alcohol-burning tabletop fire pits “extremely dangerous,” linking them to two deaths and more than 60 serious burn injuries since 2019 and urging all consumers to stop using them immediately [2]. In July 2026, the CPSC issued a specific warning against Houswise Tabletop Fire Pits after seven burn injuries — including third-degree burns — were reported and the manufacturer refused to recall the product [3].
