What’s the Problem?
This FDA Recall began on September 23, 2020, and affects the following Shirakiku mushrooms, which were produced by Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc., of Santa Fe Springs, California:
- BLACK FUNGUS (KIKURAGE) 5LB pack size — Item #60403 — UPC 00074410604035
Wismettac Asian Foods initiated the recall after the California Department of Public Health discovered salmonella in the Shirakiku mushrooms, FDA said. Distribution of the affected products has been discontinued pending results of an investigation into the source of contamination.
The recalled mushrooms were distributed to restaurants in Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Washington DC, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and British Columbia in Canada.
Consumers who purchased any recalled Shirakiku mushrooms should either discard them or return them for a refund.
Anyone concerned about a potential food poisoning illness from recalled mushrooms should call their doctor immediately.
