Update: Chrysler Recalls RAM 1500 Trucks Over Brake Problem
The NHTSA on February 9, 2021, announced that Chrysler is recalling 2021 Ram 1500 Classic SLT trucks which were manufactured without the retaining clip that secures the master cylinder push rod to the brake pedal, which can cause the brake pedal to separate from the brake system. A separated brake pedal can result in the inability of the driver to use the brakes, increasing the risk of a crash. FCA US number for this recall is Y04.
Which RAM Pickups Were Recalled?
The first recall affects about 660,000 RAM 3500 pickups from model years 2013-2017, RAM 2500 trucks from 2014-2017, and 3500 chassis cabs over concerns that a nut in the vehicles’ steering system could become loose and make it impossible for the driver to steer. Fiat has received reports of at least 1 injury and 8 accidents potentially linked to the problem.
The second recall affects approximately 222,000 RAM 1500 trucks from model year 2019 to fix adjustable brake pedal systems that could become detached while driving, increasing the risk of accident and injury.
The 2 recalls come just a month after a separate FCA recall involving a potential loss of power steering in 2019 Ram 1500 models.
Owners of RAM trucks from the affected years can visit FCA’s recall site and enter their VIN to determine whether their vehicle qualifies for the recall.
