Latest Updates

On September 6, 2026, FSIS announced the voluntary recall of approximately 1,513 pounds of imported ready-to-eat dry-cured pork jowl (guanciale) by Prime Line Distributors, Inc. of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Ferrarini USA, Inc. of Hoboken, New Jersey [1]. The contamination was discovered during routine FSIS import reinspection testing when a product sample confirmed positive for Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses had been reported as of the September 6, 2026 recall date.

What Products Are Affected?

The recall covers two sets of products from two importers, both produced by Bome SRL at Est. 1937L in Italy on May 21, 2026 and imported into the United States during July 2026. All recalled products carry Lot Code 263311US, a Best If Used By Date of May 16, 2027, and establishment number IT 1937 L CE inside the Italian mark of inspection:

  • Prime Line Distributors, Inc. — Various weight cardboard cases containing two pieces of individually vacuum-packed “PRIME LINE DISTRIBUTORS, INC. GUANCIALE PORK JOWL PRODUCT OF ITALY”
  • Prime Line Distributors, Inc. — Various weight individually vacuum-packaged “GUANCIALE PORK JOWL PRODUCT OF ITALY”
  • Ferrarini USA, Inc. — Various weight cardboard cases containing two pieces of individually vacuum-packed “GUANCIALE PORK JOWL PRODUCT OF ITALY”
  • Ferrarini USA, Inc. — Various weight individually vacuum-packaged “FERRARINI GUANCIALE DRY-CURED PORK JOWL”

Prime Line Distributors products were shipped exclusively to food service and retail locations in Florida. Ferrarini USA products were shipped to distributors and food service locations in California, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Texas. FSIS has expressed concern that recalled products may still be present in food service and retail refrigerators or freezers.

What Is the Hazard?

The recalled guanciale products have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium capable of causing serious and sometimes fatal infections. The recall has been classified as Class I — the USDA’s most serious recall level — indicating a reasonable probability that consuming the recalled product could cause serious adverse health consequences or death.

Listeria infection primarily affects older adults, pregnant women and their newborns, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea, with more severe cases involving headache, stiff neck, confusion, and loss of balance — and the infection can lead to miscarriage or stillbirth in pregnant women.

What Should Consumers and Food Service Operators Do?

Consumers and food service operators who received recalled guanciale products should not eat, sell, or serve them and should discard them or return them to the place of purchase. Food service operators should check all refrigerators and freezers for affected products and sanitize any surfaces that may have come into contact with the recalled product.

For questions, consumers may contact Ferrarini USA at 818-256-1622 or Luca@ferrariniusa.com. Questions about Prime Line Distributors products may be directed to FSIS at 888-674-6854, Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET, or by email at MPHotline@usda.gov.

Can I File a Lawsuit?

Consumers or food service workers who became ill with listeriosis after consuming recalled guanciale products from Prime Line Distributors or Ferrarini USA may have significant legal options against the importers and the producer. Contact an attorney promptly to have your case evaluated.
