Latest Updates

On June 8, 2023, Ashley Furniture Industries, LLC announced a voluntary recall of its Signature Design by Ashley Party Time Collection power loveseats, sofas, and recliners in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) [1]. An additional 9,450 units were sold in Canada. The furniture was manufactured in China, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

What Products Are Affected?

The recall covers Signature Design by Ashley Party Time Collection power reclining loveseats, sofas, and recliners sold in black and white faux leather with integrated LED lighting and USB charging ports. The model number is printed on a barcode label on the bottom of each unit. The affected model numbers are:

  • Loveseat: 3700318, 3700418, 3700318C, 3700418C
  • Sofa: 3700315, 3700415, 3700315C, 3700415C
  • Recliner: 3700313, 3700413, 3700313C, 3700413C

The recalled furniture was sold at Ashley HomeStores and other furniture retailers nationwide, as well as online at Ashleyfurniture.com, from November 2018 through March 2023 for between $900 and $1,800.

What Is the Hazard?

The cupholder integrated into the recalled power furniture units contains LED lighting that can overheat during normal use. Because the cupholder is built into heavily upholstered furniture, an overheating LED component can quickly ignite surrounding fabric, foam, and cushioning, turning a small electrical defect into a full-scale furniture fire.

Incidents and Injuries

Ashley Furniture is aware of six reports of the LED cupholder overheating in the recalled furniture pieces. All six incidents resulted in fire, smoke damage, and damaged furniture. No personal injuries have been reported to date.

What Caused the Recall?

The recall was initiated after Ashley Furniture identified that the LED lighting component inside the cupholder can malfunction and generate excessive heat. The defect affects all 12 model numbers across the three furniture types in the Party Time Collection, spanning the full four-and-a-half year sales window from November 2018 through March 2023.

What Should Consumers Do?

Consumers who own any of the recalled Party Time Collection loveseats, sofas, or recliners should immediately unplug the unit from the wall and stop using the power functions. Ashley Furniture is providing a free repair to all affected consumers.

To arrange the free repair, consumers should contact Ashley Furniture Industries toll-free at 608-323-9027, Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET, or online at www.PartyTimeReclinerRecall.expertinquiry.com. Can I File a Lawsuit?

Consumers who purchased recalled Ashley Furniture Party Time Collection loveseats, sofas, or recliners — particularly those who suffered property damage, fire damage, or injury as a result of the overheating LED cupholder — may have significant legal options. A class action lawsuit could allow affected consumers to seek compensation for property damage, medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other related losses.
