Latest Updates
CPSC is warning consumers to stop using Pariplus Foldable Grill Carts with Wheels, Models NWGS2501 and GSPA-2501A, immediately due to the risk of fingertip amputation and crushing injuries when the products fold or collapse. [1] CPSC is aware of at least 21 incidents where consumers’ fingers have been caught in pinch point areas, including the sliding track for the legs, when the product folds or collapses, resulting in a fingertip amputation, a fractured finger and five lacerations requiring stitches. [1]
One Fingertip Amputation
One consumer suffered complete fingertip amputation from fingers caught in the pinch point areas. The severed fingertip required emergency medical treatment.
One Fractured Finger
One consumer sustained a fractured finger from the crushing force of the folding mechanism. The broken bone required medical treatment and immobilization.
Five Lacerations Requiring Stitches
Five consumers suffered deep lacerations requiring stitches from the sharp edges in the pinch point areas. The cuts penetrated skin and underlying tissue necessitating sutures.
Fingers Caught in Sliding Track
Consumers’ fingers become trapped in the sliding track for the legs of the product. The track creates dangerous pinch points during folding and collapsing operations.
Injuries During Folding or Collapsing
The amputations, fractures, and lacerations occur when the grill carts fold or collapse. Fingers become caught between moving components as the tables transition between positions.
Models NWGS2501 and GSPA-2501A
The warning covers Models NWGS2501 and GSPA-2501A foldable grill carts. The steel carts have openings or flat surfaces for tabletop grills, wheels on one side, side shelves, paper towel holders, and hooks for grilling accessories.
Sold on Amazon and eBay
The products were sold online on Amazon.com and eBay by Maiduo, of China. The manufacturer has not agreed to recall the products despite the injury reports.
CPSC Urges Disposal
CPSC urges consumers to stop using the grill tables immediately and dispose of them. Consumers should not sell or give away these hazardous products.
Design Defect in Folding Mechanism
The grill carts with folding mechanisms that amputate fingertips and fracture fingers are defectively designed. Safe folding designs require guards preventing finger insertion into pinch points.
Exposed Pinch Points
The unguarded pinch points in the sliding track create crushing hazards accessible to users’ fingers. Compliant designs shield all pinch points during folding operations.
Crushing Force From Folding
The folding mechanism generates sufficient crushing force to amputate fingertips and fracture bones. The powerful closing action traps and compresses fingers between metal components.
Permanent Disfigurement and Disability
The amputated fingertips create permanent disfigurement and loss of function. Victims lose sensation, dexterity, and fine motor capabilities in the affected digits.
Emergency Medical Treatment
The fingertip amputation and deep lacerations require emergency room treatment. Victims need surgical intervention, sutures, and wound care for the severe injuries.
Failure to Install Pinch Point Guards
Maiduo failed to install protective guards covering the pinch points in the sliding track. Reasonable safety measures require shielding all crushing hazards during folding.
Failure to Warn About Pinch Point Hazards
Maiduo failed to warn consumers about the fingertip amputation and crushing risks from the exposed pinch points. Adequate warnings must alert users to keep fingers away from the sliding track during folding.
Manufacturer Refuses Recall
Maiduo has not agreed to recall the products despite 21 injury reports including amputation and fractures. The refusal to recall demonstrates disregard for consumer safety.
Breach of Implied Warranty
Maiduo breached implied warranties by selling grill carts that amputate fingertips during normal use. The products causing severe injuries fail basic safety requirements for outdoor furniture.
Negligent Product Design
Manufacturing grill carts with exposed pinch points accessible during folding constitutes negligence. Manufacturers must shield all crushing hazards preventing amputation injuries.
Contact an Attorney
If you suffered fingertip amputation, fractured fingers, or lacerations from Pariplus grill cart pinch points, contact a product liability attorney. Preserve the grill cart, purchase records from Amazon or eBay, and medical documentation.
